Julia Jäkel is an executive with over 20 years’ experience in media and publishing industries and a passion for outstanding journalism. From 2012 to 2021, she served as Chief Executive Officer of Gruner + Jahr, one of the leading publishing houses in Europe. Julia was a member of Bertelsmann’s Group Management Committee from 2013 to 2021 and chaired the Bertelsmann Content Alliance, the organization the Group created to coordinate all of its German TV, TV production, radio, literary, music, and magazine content.

Today, she serves as a member of the Supervisory Board of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, Non -Executive Director of Adevinta ASA, member of the European Advisory Board of Google Cloud, member of the Supervisory Board of the German Press Agency DPA, and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, member of the Board of Trustees of the University Medical Center, Hamburg-Eppendorf, and of the DFL Foundation (German Football League). Ms Jäkel studied history, political sciences and economics at Heidelberg, Harvard and Cambridge and holds an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge.
