Lukas Kahwe Smith is CTO & Co-Founder at Witty Works

Lukas is CTO & Co-Founder at Witty Works, creator of the first inclusive language writing assitance, where among other roles he acts as the product owner and ethics board lead.


Originally from Berlin, he studied economics at New College in Florida USA and computer science at the TU Berlin with a focus on the impact of computer science on society. He started his first company in 2000 with the aim of revolutionizing the flower industry. Later he was a partner at the Swiss web agency Liip, where he helped introduce the Holcracy self-management governance framework. He has made significant contributions to the open source world. In his role of release manager for PHP 5.3 he worked on making the release process more inclusive and reliable. As part of the PHP Symfony core team he launched the Diversity Initiative.


He currently lives in Zurich with his family, sharing the passion for the self-refereed sport Ultimate Frisbee with his spouse.

The session will show the underlying principles and how they are operationalized along with concrete examples of how these processes were applied in the real world during the development of the Witty Works inclusive writing assistant.
